Kingstree is one of multiple cities that have been hit with heavy equipment theft in South Carolina this summer. On July 19 at 5:45pm a Kubota excavator k71-3 was stolen from an area near the train depot at 136 E. Main Street. The excavator belonged to Travis Davis of Irrigation Plus. Town of Kingstree video surveillance cameras caught the theft on camera. The vehicle towing the excavator was a white Ford F250 Crew Cab.
Shikym Williams, 36, of Charleston, was arrested on July 31 and charged with grand larceny according to the warrant for his arrest. He was released on $75,000 bond on August 1.
Williams was also charged with grand larceny in Charleston County for the July 9 theft of a 2022 Bobcat E351 R2 excavator and a 2021 Dolittle Equipment Trailor, according to a Charleston County Court Affidavit. Video surveillance of the scene indicated a blurry license plate, so the owner could not be identified. On July 11, Williams put out a Facebook Marketplace advertisement for the same bobcat. When confronted about the advertisement by investigators, he denied putting it online, and took it down within two hours. The same truck was recorded stealing equipment on June 21, 2023. In both cases, the charged suspect was released on bond.
The excavator in the Kingstree theft has yet to be recovered. There is a $1,000 reward for the return of the stolen equipment. Anyone with information should contact Investigator Brandon McCants at 843-355-6381.
